The Season of Pentecost

"Filled with the Holy Spirit.” Fifty days after the Resurrection of Jesus, the apostles and crowd were “filled with the Holy Spirit.”  (Acts 2:1-41)  They were able to speak in other languages and understand one another in a wonderful  way.  Right now the United States is divided over several issues:  war, health care, oil spill, and immigration.  How may this story in the book of Acts of the Apostles inform and enlighten our current situation?  These persons gathered on that fiftieth day known as Pentecost became  one people.  Despite nationalities, they were unified by the Spirit.  Despite different languages, they heard one another in the Spirit.  Despite hardly knowing each other, they came together and were filled with the Holy Spirit.  These Pentecost people experienced a Beautiful Day.  Despite the dividing concerns in our society, we may be united in God’s Name.  So united they became that 3,000 were baptized that day.  We too may be a Pentecost people.  May we know that God has opened the way to every race and nation. By the Coming the Holy Spirit, every soul may receive fullness of life. May this Good News reach the ends of the earth. May the power of Pentecost empower us to face problems and seize opportunities on behalf of all the people of God. May this gift of Grace enable us to listen, learn, and love as we are “filled with the Holy Spirit.”

Our Purpose

We believe in the basis God-given tenets of the Christian faith as contained in the Nicene Creed, the Apostle's Creed, and the Baptismal Covenant, as the motivating force for our entire being; that we should be a committed community of disciples of the Lord, coming together under Christ to build and grow the kingdom; that the Holy Spirit lives within each of us, and is released to work through us, thereby empowering our lives; and that we should send people with well-developed moral character and spirituality out into the world to tell everyone what we have seen and heard in order to bring the Gospel to everyone through service and fellowship.

We are committed to serving all our parishioners and everyone else with dedication; to developing a congregation whose spiritual life encourages the participation of all it's members in mission and ministry; to developing Christian leadership; and to becoming financially self-sustaining by being open to new and innovative means of using our time, talents, and treasures.

We aspire to be a congregation that takes care of and is concerned with the welfare of its adult members, and that also raises up, nurtures and cares for its children and young adults by making St. Margaret's and San Francisco de Asis a place where they will want to come.

We aspire to be a congregation that is attuned to the physical and spiritual needs of people by supporting them through both the expected and unexpected changes and challenges of life, by doing unto others as we would have them do to us, and by washing not only each others feet, but also those of the world outside of our church.

We aspire to be a Christian community that is unified and at peace with itself, and open to all, drawing them in as members of a loving family, so that we can be a living example to the surrounding secular and Christian world.

We aspire to be a congregation that is truly multi-cultural and inclusive; that understands its cultural and ethnic differences and gifts; that offers a reflective variety of worship experiences; that actively promotes harmony among its various groups, and that passionately works against the evils of racism and prejudice in all their forms.

We want to become a center for Christian Life and Learning, sharing resources within a larger Christian and non-Christian network, proving leadership and training in the following specific areas: teaching the Word of God in clear and easily understood terms; encouraging and training leaders for outreach ministries to those who are seeking a spiritual home; providing a variety of successful programs for children and young adults, and confronting racial and cultural prejudice wherever it is found.
